Short Description of Activity
Continued to work with our 2 partners to meet and correspond with Fletcher Jacobs, State Trails Program Manager, about our issues with Non-Motorized Trails Grants Program. Our main concerns expressed were that the Planning Trails with Wildlife in Mind guide be required reading for grant applicants, getting grantees to interact with CPW Wildlife Managers as early in the process as possible, define collaboration as identifying and working with ALL partners, more attention to avoiding impacts to wildlife over recreation wants of people. To reinforce this work, Broads and Backcountry Hunters and Anglers sent a letter to the CPW Commissioners about our continuing concerns.
Reflection/Evaluation
Fletcher heard us and important changes were made to the Grant application criteria for the 2023 year. We were not pulled in as a full partner in the process. This was done all internally by Fletcher, State Trails Committee and State Regional Trails Coordinators. However, our persistence paid off and important changes were made in the grant application materials which were published August 3.
