Short Description of Activity

Continued to advocate for closure of high-risk domestic sheep allotments on the Gunnison Field Office of BLM; spoke at length with GFO manager Jon Kaminsky; strategized with coalition partners to elevate the concern for SB-21 herd; published ad in Ouray Plaindealer for National Public Lands Day to promote monitoring of bighorn; advocated for more trailhead signs re: the bighorn sheep monitoring program; continued to strive to obtain the AOIs for high-risk allotments on USFS lands.

Reflection/Evaluation

Ultimate goal to close high-risk allotments: The BLM GFO proposed decision re: domestic sheep renewals is stalled with the formation of a new subcommittee of the SW RAC. Not sure why BLM thinks these folks have the expertise to make recommendations, but they didn’t ask me!! It’s not likely we will see closure of these high risk allotments any time soon which puts our Tier 1 bighorn herd at risk. Buyouts are still options but they take time and lots of money. Still don’t have USFS 2022 AOIs after multiple emails and two phone calls.
