Short Description of Activity
Black Canyon of the Gunnison NP and Curecanti NRA seeking input on a Draft Wilderness and Backcountry Management Plan. I attended the NPS virtual scoping meeting, discussed with Robyn, and wrote comments on the Plan. My main points were asking the Plan to highlight the impacts to wildlife of increased visitation and better monitoring and mitigation plans; more review of species -esp. bighorn sheep, Gunnison sage-grouse, and inventory of plant species; better monitoring plan; active involvement of tribal review; more needed on climate change; and Standard of Zero for Use of motorized and mechanical for research/management in Wilderness.
Reflection/Evaluation
Believe we submitted some substantive comments in areas the NPS did not consider thoroughly.
