Short Description of Activity

Lu and Susan monitored bird species for CBC 2022 at Bachelor Island North

Reflection/Evaluation

The goal of the activity was to count the number and types of birds and document them on the list. The list was then added up and submitted to Vancouver Audubon for their 2022 report.

Bald Eagles: 2 adults around nest site on east bank of Lake River between Hunt Club and mouth of the river. One
immature observed on east side of Lake River around 10:30 am upstream of Hunt Club. Remainder of Bald Eagles were
on Bachelor Island or north tip of River S Unit near confluence of Bachelor Island Slough with Lake River.
We didn’t count any geese or swans just flying over without landing on Bachelor Island. Birds within our territory seemed
pretty secure and didn’t move a lot unless disturbed by a Bald Eagle flying over and then they tended to fly up, circle around and return to feeding in the same locations in the interior of the island rather than moving off the island.
