Key Issue: Livestock Grazing Management
Activity Type: Stewardship (monitoring, sampling, planting, etc.)
Key Partners: Gila National Forest
Landscape/area: Gila National Forest (2658321 acres)
Measurable Outcomes
Outcome 1: Trail/land monitored (1 surveys)
Outcome 2: Hiked (4.5 miles)
Short Description of Activity
Given the wonderful monsoons this summer, and the resultant high water levels in the main rivers and their tributaries, the GOB Riparian Monitoring Team was able to spend just one day in the field. We went up Goat Canyon in the Burro Mountains, and saw no fresh sign. We also monitored the adjacent conservation area, where we had seen fresh sign on an earlier trip. There was none this month, nor was the gate open, as it had been before.
Reflection/Evaluation
Water is abundant in many places now, so we think that cattle are less likely to be where they shouldn’t. We were also encouraged that the gate was closed.
