Reflection/Evaluation
In doing outreach with some guides from the Alaska Peninsula regarding the proposed Pebble Mine I mentioned our work on the proposed Ambler District Access Road. They then introduced me to Jen Leahy of the Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership (TRCP). She and I had a long discussion about our mutual work and they (TRCP) would like to join the battle against the proposed Ambler Access Road. We will meet in January. During the banquet I was seated next to the husband of Congresswoman Mary Peltola. We discussed native issues in the Bristol Bay area, problems with subsistence in times of climate change etc. He used to be with the USFWS as a Subsistence Director and was Kathy O’Reilly-Doyle (Co-leader, Alaska Soles) boss. We got into details of the Ambler Road project, which before the election his wife had said she supported. I am hoping that her mouth service will be dropped now that she has been elected and that she will not actively support this project or the Willow Oil and Gas Development project. (Our 2 senators are supporting the Ambler Road and are trying to get the present administration to make it easier for the project to get permits.)
