Key Partners: Western Watersheds Project (WA, Montana, NV, UT) and Kettle Range Conservation Group
Landscape/area: Colville National Forest

Short Description of Activity

Emails and phone conversations (and phone tag!) w/ Laura Fertig, Western Watersheds Project, living in Montesano WA, working primarily in NV and Utah; Jocelyn Leroux, Western Watersheds Project, MT/WA director) and Christopher Bachman, Director, Kettle Range Conservation District and Terry Ferro, GOBW Methow Valley Broadband leader to determine if and where the Broads might assist these groups in monitoring public land grazing allotments.

Reflection/Evaluation

We received favorable responses from both the WWP and Kettle Range Conservation Group (KRCG) to our inquiries. In theory, the Broads could be of great assistance if 1) they were available to monitor grazing sites in the Colville NF twice a year (spring and fall) and 2) were able to use the data collection method that Suzanne Fouty is preparing to teach our Bitterbrush broads in eastern Oregon. Terry Farro reported her reticence to speak out about grazing in her neighborhood of some 50 years, but would be amenable to working with us and possibly the Methow Beaver Project in promoting restoration of public lands.
