Short Description of Activity

State Public Lands Commissioner asked one of our members for more information regarding the oil spill off NM 15 into the adjacent public land. Co-leader responded with an email outlining some current information plus links to the local newspaper and on-line news sites, plus personal observations from hiking in this area before the spill was reported. Among other things, more effective communication between state agencies regarding such incidences was encouraged so that harmful delays do not happen again. We also thanked her for her recent actions incorporating cultural resources protection rules that will now be applied to state trust lands for the purpose of identifying and protecting such resources. (Immediately after hiking in this area and seeing the tar-like oil, Co-leader also contacted our volunteer liaison at the Gila Natl. Forest who followed up by going to the site, etc.)
