Short Description of Activity
Landscape is Mystic River Watershed (MA) This activity is weekly counting of the number of river herring and alewives arriving past a dam now equipped with a fish ladder. Data is consolidated by the Mystic River Watershed Alliance and submitted to NOAA.
Reflection/Evaluation
Objective is to learn whether the previously depleted migrating fish are rebounding after removal of one dam and addition of one fish ladder. Partners count upstream at the last dam where no ladder exists to determine impact of river blockage. Goal achieved for 2022–counted fish weekly at the same time as the migration occurred. Numbers ranged from from 10 to 468.
