Short Description of Activity
Trip to the Portland Art Museum to view the works two indigenous Artists Jeffery Gibson and Oscar Howe
Reflection/Evaluation
Jeffery Gibson’s work was in glass portraying a timeline with inspirational sayings to the Tribe.
The main exhibit was of the works of Oscar Howe, his history and the development of his style and his battle with critics on what defines traditional Native Art. He was raised by his grandmother a storyteller who inspired much of his themes.
We had time and also visited a gallery of Japanese Nature Art. We followed the museum with lunch at a local Pasta shop.
This was a successful outing doing something different, educational, and that prompted good observations and discussions.
