Short Description of Activity
Judith Lopez made a monitoring visit. There was very little new trash, a bag of shell casings and broken glass was gathered and removed from the parking lot area. A large box that BLM had been informed about previously remained at southern road in the WSA. However, the cable that BLM had strung between poles to prevent 4-wheelers going down over the slope to the dunes from the parking lot had been cut and removed. There was evidence from tracks that 4 wheelers again were being driven down from the lot. Tatyana Sukharnikova, BLM Outdoor Recreation Planner, was informed and said BLM had nothing to do with the cable being removed. She shared on 1/27/23 that BLM had replaced the cable and removed the box. She asked that in the future I complete a monitoring form for BLM which she provided.
Reflection/Evaluation
The goal has been to monitor and clean up this WSA. Because of monitoring BLM was made aware that the protective measure they had put in place to prevent access to the dunes from the parking lot had been removed so that they were quickly able to replace it.
