Outcome 1: Stream/river sampled (1 )
Outcome 2: train other Broads (1 )
Short Description of Activity
Judith Lopez did preparation work on 1/25/23 and then on 1/26/23 sampled the Uncompahgre River at her assigned site in Confluence Park. She was accompanied for training purposes by Broad Wayne Quade, trainee, and new Broad Dianne Collins who has expressed interest in this stewardship. We collected samples for metals analysis by the lab in Denver. We also collected sample for determining oxygenation, pH, alkalinity, and hardness. Wayne and Judith worked together on the protocols. Some of protocols were repeated by Judith the following day to ensure accuracy. The data was submitted on 1/27/23 on line to RW. Metal samples for two month’s of sampling were mailed on 1/27/23.
Reflection/Evaluation
There were two over all goals met 1) to conduct the sampling and protocols to continue to provide consistent data to River Watch and CPW about the health and status of the river and 2) to continue to prepare Wayne Quade with experience to help him decide where and how best to use his new skills to contribute to river monitoring. Additionally another new Broad was introduced to this form of stewardship. Dianne has experience in water testing from her work in another state.
A concern was presented this month by the appearance of Delta’s Chief of Police who said that the city official who approved my driving to the site a couple years ago was not the person allowed to give that consent, he was. Negotiations are underway between him and Megan McConneville, CPW, supervisor of River Watch volunteers, whether I will be able to continue to drive to my site and be given some written authorization that I can display to prevent further calls to the police dispatcher.
