River Watch/River Science requires that all volunteers be assessed to ensure that the volunteer’s sampling protocols are conducted appropriately and the results meet quality control standards. Judith Lopez set up the meeting with River Watch staff Bradley Boileau to be held at her residence so that three volunteers, two of whom are Broads (Judith Lopez and Wayne Quade). All three volunteers were given unknown samples to test for pH, alkalinity, hardness, and oxygenation. The volunteers were also queried on procedural matters. All three volunteers were given passing grades for their results.
Reflection/Evaluation
The goal of this activity was to ensure that sampling and execution of protocols were done in a manner that ensured quality control in water assessment. This QA is important to ensure the normal monthly results are meaningful and dependable for the users of the data.
