Short Description of Activity
Social event gathering potluck dinner and watching the movie Te Ata based on the true story of Mary Thompson Fisher (Q’orianka Kilcher), widely known as Te Ata, who traverses cultural barriers to achieve fame as an actress and a Native American storyteller at a time in America when it was against the law. She was recognized by the Roosevelt administration. performed at the white house and was influential in changing restrictive laws affecting Indigenous culture.
Reflection/Evaluation
It was a wonderful way to spend Friday night enjoying a variety of dishes including a traditional Ojibway stew. The movie was well received and was very touching providing historical information that many were not aware of prompting good discussions.
