Short Description of Activity
Broadband members and interested folks from Silver City and Las Cruces met at Mesilla Valley Bosque State Park for a special Ranger talk for our group, and a short hike. Ranger Alex Mares gave a highly informative talk on their restoration efforts, water and climate change issues, administrative challenges relative to water, etc. His cultural history talk about the area beginning in the 1500s was fascinating and included his Native American perspective. One of our Las Cruces area members helped arrange the trip.
Reflection/Evaluation
It went well and participants really enjoyed the field trip. The Ranger talk was excellent, including the cultural history, and much appreciated. (Co-leader sent a note of thanks on a GOBW card.) This trip provided us with an opportunity to briefly rendezvous with some of our Las Cruces members including two we had not met before. It would be good if we could do a similar trip once a year during cool weather to rendezvous with them and allow for more interaction.
