Key Issue: Wildlife Protection
Activity Type: Advocacy (rallies, lobbying, meeting decision makers, letters/calls/emails)
Key Partners: Southwest Colorado Wolf Cooperative
Short Description of Activity
Participating in meetings of the Southwest Colorado Wolf Cooperative, attending virtually meetings of the CPW Wildlife Commission, attending virtually some webinars on wolf topic, including updating on the process and opportunities to comments in Broadband membership emails, providing written comments to both CPW and US Fish and Wildlife Service on wolf reintroduction. Also not able to determine how many Broads members send in individual comments.
Reflection/Evaluation
It is frustrating to see the misinformation that goes out about wolf ecology, and the views of opinions of ranchers seem to count for much more than opinions/knowledge base of wolf advocates. However, we can see progress in all sides making concessions/collaborations. That is until State legislature put up recent roadblock legislation to delay the CPW paws-on the ground work.
Not sure how to provide comments that represent the consensus of our Broadband -membership probably includes those who are ranchers and others who may not support all issues that I see. So I sent in comments as an individual. Also, I am submitting volunteers hours based on the “event” being the cumulative participation in meetings and webinars and writing comments.
