Short Description of Activity

Before a Safari Club International (SCI) Alaska banquet I met with their attorney who handled the Alaska issues.

Reflection/Evaluation

We had a wonderful and very animated discussion on the problems I had with Safari Club (they recognize the harvest of exotic big game, while I believe that the keeping of exotic big game is a biologic threat to our indigenous species, and their past behavior was very sexist and paternalistic). We then went on to discuss climate change and it’s possible effects on game animals, habitat and future game populations. She was very interested in Great Old Broads for Wilderness and the work we do. She is this year’s winner of the Wild Sheep Foundation Artemis award, as a big time international hunter. I love bringing up conservation issues outside of game management at these events and am often surprised by the reactions I get (other times the knee jerk conservative denial is front and center….). I wonder why some of the SCI-Alaska officers duck and run when they see me? I was in my going to town clothes after all, and my best cowboy boots!
