Short Description of Activity

I met with a new Broad, Mary Ann Cockle, for a general discussion and coffee in the sunshine.

Reflection/Evaluation

Mary Ann came over with a new friend to tell me that she had joined Broads. She is a neighbor and the owner of the wonderful Palmer independant book store Fireside Books. We had a wide ranging visit while enjoying the spring sun on my deck, discussing what issues the Alaska Soles had been and are actively working on, and the idea of an early summer gathering that would be mostly social but try to reintroduce the Alaska Soles and Great Old Broads after the long Covid hiatus. Mary Ann’s book store is very active in community events and is one great place to put announcements about Alaska Soles activities. I will try leaving some Great Old Broads’ literature there. Mary Ann will be a great addition to the Broads, and the other newer neighbor is also interested! We have a great group of strong, independent, informed women in this rural area of a strongly conservative Borough. Another neighbor who is newly retired from working with native landholdings might also be interested in joining now that she has more time. And a fourth neighbor woman, retired last year from teaching science, has also said that she thinks the Broads are right up her alley, once she gets back from 18 months at a remote (off road and off grid) cabin with her husband. [ Around here ‘neighbor ‘ means anyone on the 10 miles long dead end road!]
