Short Description of Activity

NSJBB continues to build relationships with Ute Mountain Ute elected leaders, staff and community members. We made new and initial contact with a newly elected Councilman Conrad Jacket and recently hired biologist Ben Robinson. Maintain contact with Regina Lopez Whiteskunk and Councilman Lyndreth Wall.. With Sara Husby’s input, I revised and sent a letter of support to Ute Mountain Ute Chairman Manuel Heart and Councilman Wall.
Held a zoom meeting with bilingual interpretation with Hispanic Affairs Project (HAP) staff and Friends of Youth & Nature (FOYAN) Board members to discuss collaboration on summer outdoor events for underserved (primarily Latina/o/x) families. Participate in monthly Colorado Immigrant Rights Coalition (CIRC) calls and networked to provide their board with an advisory council member; met virtually with Western Colorado Alliance (WCA) board members and executive director to discuss causes/backstory/next steps regarding the disbanding of the Western Organization of Resource Council’s (WORC) white caucus. Two Broads attend Ian Haney Lopez webinar on class-race project.

Reflection/Evaluation

Relationship building with Indigenous partners is slow but steady. With the hope of engaging Ute Mountain Ute leadership in the GMUG Forest Plan revision, time is running out to have them offer input, though their Tribal Historic Preservation Officer Terry Knight has engaged in two (that I know of) consultations with the GMUG. Though we have a strong relationship with HAP staff, we struggle to obtain input from staff and their membership regarding the types of outdoor activities that might be desirable/attractive. Relationship with CIRC is growing stronger. Need to follow up with WCA on status of DEIJ work at WORC/WCA and hold them accountable to moving forward.
