Short Description of Activity
Panel Discussion hosted by Laura Pascus, former assistant editor of HGN. Conversation about the unsustainable and exploitative fossil fuel industry in NM and what is happening in the wide NM area.
Reflection/Evaluation
Laura Pascus moderated the discussion with Samantha Ruscavvage-Barz representing Wild Earth Guardians as legal director, Jonathan Juarez-Alonzo of Youth United Against Climate Crisis Action (YUCCA), and Kayley Shoup of Citizens Caring for the Future from Carlsbad, NM. Samantha spoke of legal action that is currently underway with no end in sight. Jonathan spoke of action that must be taken (organized protests) in answer to positions on climate change made by our governor and legislative roadblocks this past session. Kayley spoke of growing up in Carlsbad and how this conservative town has fallen into the hands of oil and gas and how hard it is to make a difference. All of them said that they’re not giving up and there is hope still in the fight against fossil fuel and for our climate. Kayley’s group supports the NM Green Amendment. Of course YUCCA and Wild Earth Guardians do as well.
