Short Description of Activity
Letter sent to Maria Cantwell and Patty Murray in regard to Mining Reform
I am a constituent and an avid outdoor recreationist, and I’m writing to express my support for Rep. Grijalva and Sen. Heinrich’s Clean Energy Minerals Reform Act.
Reforming America’s outdated 150-year-old mining law is needed to prevent mining activities and pollution from degrading the public lands and waters that I value as a recreationist. This bill will also promote responsible mineral development that will reduce our reliance on foreign energy sources and help our society transition towards clean energy.
On the other hand, I’m very concerned about approaches like Sen. Cortez Masto’s Mining Regulatory Clarity Act, which would take mining reform in the wrong direction, and threatens outdoor recreation values.
I hope that you will support this critically important legislation to ensure that America’s mining policy reflects 21st century values, including outdoor recreation.
