Short Description of Activity
Linda Folkestad and Ihiked to Placid Lake/Chenamus lake trail in Indian Heaven Wilderness to monitor solitude.
Reflection/Evaluation
We hiked up to Lake Placid which was beautiful and continued on to Chenamus Lake which really was just a pond or a bog. The mosquitoes were attaching us when we stopped. We crossed this rickety old log of a bridge without any problems. We saw absolutely no one on the trail. The Indian Racetrack was very interesting as it was actually used by Indigenous people as an annual gathering place for Native Americans during the berry season until the early 1900s. We know that thousands of people from the Yakima, Klickitat, Wasco, Wishram, and Umatilla tribes would gather here each year.for berry picking, fishing, and hunting.
