Short Description of Activity
Karen Artell trained 3 Broadband members. We looked for 7 campsites that were recorded in previous years. We found 1 new site and 2 old sites. The area was burned in the Cameron Peak fire in 2020, the largest fire in Colorado history. The fire and resulting stimulated new plant growth as well as some flooding has erased some campsites. All sites we found did not show any recent use.
Reflection/Evaluation
“It was like looking for treasure”, hiking off trail to use GPS to find campsites. “You had to be right above the fire ring to locate the sites” We enjoyed conversations about a wide variety of subjects through the day. Karen compiled the data from our hike and submitted it to Kevin Cannon of the Canyon Lakes District of the Forest Service.
