Short Description of Activity

Elkhorn Creek, from trailhead east 1.15 miles. We observed 3 abandoned beaver dams and several chewed willows, all old. Also found a channel that led to an old beaver lodge. Beaver pond to the southwest – 2 more abandoned beaver dams and much sedimentation. Elkhorn Creek east of Disappointment Falls – 2 more abandoned beaver dams with channels and sedimenatation. Many tall grasses and wildflowers.

Reflection/Evaluation

“Each hiker was able to submit an observation on iBeaver (in survey 123 app). We all enjoyed the hike and conversations. Many plants and birds were also observed as part of habitat assessments. Disappointment Falls did not disappoint! Abundant water falling and carving the granite boulders.
“We found out later that our contact at the USFS was able to see our iBeaver report locations on Castor Mapper. We are working with him to learn more about how to see potential beaver locations there and on Google Earth.
