Short Description of Activity

Researching S873 and HR 1380, two bills that require the agencies that manage Wilderness to make direction for rock climbing and allow the use of fixed anchors in compliance with the Wilderness Act and other regulations & laws. Emails, talking with other organizations, and a Zoom meeting with SRCA members on 7/21. Email to lawyer Dana Johnson (Wilderness Watch), to ask questions about the bills. Phone calls with Sally and Sara Husby. Attempts to get a meeting with Senator Hickenlooper and Representative Neguse, as our Broadband is in his district.

Reflection/Evaluation

The goal was to strategize defeating these bills. There are differences of opinion about the bills within SRCA. Wilderness Watch (Dana Johnson and George Nickas were also on the Zoom meeting. No meetings with the legislators yet, but I am still trying to get calls with their DC staff to get more information before deciding on strategy.
