Reflection/Evaluation

The food was the best part! We enjoyed clam chowder from Mo’s restaurant on Thursday and Taco bar on Friday along with blackberry cobbler. We rode the Discovery Trail on our bikes from Long Beach to Ilwaco and return. Even though some of us had ebikes while others did not, we still managed to somewhat stay together!

We walked on the beach until sunset on Thursday. We went down to Fort Canby in Oregon and visited the Lewis and Clark National Park for a short hike and interpretive talk about the medicinal strategies of the early settlers to the region. It is truly amazing that anyone lived through that era.

Saturday night was the free outdoor concert at Waikiki Beach in Ilwaco starring the local band: “Old Growth Band” Don’t be impressed by their name and think it has anything to do with a forest, because ,although the band members were as old as we were, their singing voices and careers had long since expired. Consequently, we departed early from the concert.

The most memorable event at the entire campout had to do the the camp host. We never saw anyone in the travel trailer onsite for the camp host. But we DID hear from the poor dog and cat who were left to their own devices and trapped inside the trailer. As the days progressed their cries became weaker and weaker until Rosanne reached through an open window and offered them food and water. Luckily, the dogs survived another night. Then Rosanne called the sheriff and the deputy arrived. He was concerned about the possibility of a dead body inside. So he recommended that we take the animals and try to find homes since the animal control shelter was currently full. So, that’s just exactly what Rosanne did! Before she left she gave them both a flea dip bath and took them home. Trish has taken in the dog while Rosanne has accepted the cat into her home . We never heard anything else from the neglectful camp host! I am anxious to hear how the animals are doing!
