Short Description of Activity
Our Broadband member, Merrilee Runyan, and I each spoke for three minutes, respectively, at a “Listening Session” Zoom call before a federal mediation panel considering whether or not to breach the Lower Snake River Dams. We had exactly three minutes to speak. I attach a copy of my comments. I was able to deliver these remarks exactly within the three-minute timeframe so I said everything that I had written and planned to say.
Reflection/Evaluation
This “Listening Session” was successful in that more than 4o of the speakers advocated for breaching the dams. Only a handful of speakers argued to keep the dams, and most of these speakers were arguing from self-interest as they identified themselves as employees of power companies who bought power from the Lower Snake River Dams. Other Pacific Northwest Broads” leaders spoke that day including Laurie Kerr, Micky Ryan, and Amy Stewart..
