Short Description of Activity
Mary Taylor Goforth, leader of the South Sound Olympia Broadband emailed me the first week of June and asked if she could talk with me. I agreed, and we did a Zoom call on June 8th, 2023. During the Zoom call, Taylor said that she was moving to Santa Fe, New Mexico, permanently and would no longer be able to lead the South Sound (Olympia) Broadband. She asked if we would be willing to merge our Broadbands. I said “no” because the Seattle Broads used to be part of the Olympia Broadband five years ago before Barbara Phalen started our Seattle Broadband on May 21, 2018. It didn’t work to have Seattle Broads and Olympia Broads together because the driving distance between us is just too great. I told Taylor that we would be willing to invite South Sound Broads to our meetings and events if any of them want to attend.
Reflection/Evaluation
Annie Cubberly. former leader of the Olympia Broads, has already reached out to me, and she joined our Book Club this summer. Taylor gave me a list of names of the six or seven active Olympia Broads, and I plan to reach out to them and invite them to future hikes as that is the one activity that Taylor said they enjoy. I discussed the decision not to merge with both Barbara Phalen and Genia. We all agree that it was the right decision for us. Our Seattle Broadband is going strong with more than 30 active members, and our priority is to keep it that way!
