Legislative updates regarding bills important to this group as well as updates on what the various groups are working on.

Reflection/Evaluation

Ten of our republican legislatures walked out for 10 days plus as they did not want to have a majority to vote on mostly bills they were not in support of – it was a shit show with them returning with one week left to finish out the year. ( foot note: last year voters voted and passed a bill that if legislators miss 10 days or more unexcused days they cannot run again – which 5 of those are fighting this right now and taking it to the State Supreme Court). Some of the bills we are watching is reform of the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife Commission; Concerns of more and bigger compensation to ranches for cattle depredidation; Climate bills seem to be on track; Oregon Wild shared that Wyden’s Owyhee bill is being re-introduced and there is new staff with Wyden’s office. Eastside screens talked about again as well as locally the siting for a new landfill, which has been pretty controversial. I reported on what we are working on regarding Broadwalk to address grazing which is a big focus for us and in the summer we do more stewardship projects than have meetings.
