Short Description of Activity
Sallie Thoreson monitored activity on Wolf Reintroduction for the state of Colorado. The CPW Commission passed the state reintroduction plan non May 3. The state legislative session included 3 wolf reintroduction bills. Two positive -wolf license plate to raise $ for coexistence work, money designated for compensation for possible livestock damage; one negative bill -to hold up reintroduction efforts until USFWS 10 j rule is completed. This is slated to be completed in late fall 2023 and should not be used as tool to delay wolf reintroduction. 2 Broad members made 3 phone calls – i to state rep asking him to NOT support the bill and 2 to Governor asking him to veto bill.
This is now a time to wait and watch.
Reflection/Evaluation
The state rep contacted voted for the bill, but the Governor did veto the bill.
After the legislative session ended, it is a time to wait and watch to see how wolf reintroduction proceeds. Keeping NSJBB connected with meetings of SW CO Wolf Cooperative is important way to stay on top of this issue.
