Short Description of Activity
Attended an all day site visit to the Baldy Mountain Landscape Resiliency and Habitat Improvement Project. Spoke several times throughout the day regarding the importance of preserving the characteristics of the Baldy Roadless Area.
Reflection/Evaluation
The project is going ahead with mechanical treatments and prescribed fire, however I believe my concern (which we have been expressing orally and in writing since the scoping period) regarding disturbance in the roadless area was heard – no guarantees negative impacts will not become a reality. This is a landscape Broads and coalition partners proposed to the GMUG Forest as recommended wilderness (addition to the Uncompahgre Wilderness) which was not achieved in the final draft of the GMUG Forest Plan. Nevertheless, we want to ensure its roadless character is not diminished by fire lines and mastication. Great opportunity to connect with elected officials, agency personal, non-profits, agricultural producers and local newspaper reporter.
