Reflection/Evaluation
Good news is that after the lawsuit filed by Earthjustice and joined by other organizations, “BLM has committed that any further activity during the final two years of the Peregrine exploration program would require new NEPA analysis and new agency decisions. While the leases remain valid, and the company could come back and seek approval for further exploration work in the future, any such work will require a new decision process and NEPA review. In my view, this effectively ends the Peregrine exploration program and meaningfully increases the chances that we can keep that oil (up to 1 billion barrels according to 88 energy) in the ground.” Per an email from Earthjustice. WE had not signed on to the lawsuit but had participated in many comments on this project and wrote our own extensive comments on the initial and supplemental EIS. So there is some good news!!
