Short Description of Activity

Webinar on the Science of Co-existing with Large Carnivores panel of speakers from U of Wisconsin, Ohio State with question answer discussion on the different areas pertaining to the management of predatory species and the relationship with livestock/ranchers/hunters based on science verses policy and how that effects decision and outcome..

Reflection/Evaluation

Interesting, with major points how difficult, complex and challenging to try and change ingrained attitudes regarding the habits of carnivores, how there is non-lethal approaches regarding wolves/cougars to co-exist with livestock, with better livestock management and protection of carnivores from extinction. Boils down to science verses policy and policy verses decision making. The business and profits of Agriculture and recreational hunting verses the possible inconvenience of protecting wild animals that many be dismissed as a threat and a danger, much based on traditional prejudices and stereotype thinking.
