Key Partners: Colorado Land Trust, Western Slope Conservation Center
Short Description of Activity
Delta County has an agreement with the Colorado Land Trust and Western Slope Conservation Center regarding a parcel of land on the Gunnison right beside G50 Rd in Delta. The county has already done work to make a road into the land and make a parking area where vehicles/busses can park to watch a neighboring field where often Sandhill Cranes stop in the winter. The county is making a boat ramp area so that canoes and kayaks can pull in to this site. The Trust and WSCC have agreed to do restoration work to plant appropriate trees and plants and to assist in removing invasives. Some work was done here in the spring for this purpose. The activity this date was to attend to previously planted trees that had survived. They were all mulched and watered. Two Broads participated, Judith Lopez and Melanie Rees.
Reflection/Evaluation
The goal is to restore this area. Much work will continue to need to be done but a good start has been achieved.
