Short Description of Activity

A key member of Aldo’s Broadband Borderlands Committee drafted a letter to our two (NM) U.S. Senators and our U.S. Representative for CD2, which includes the border area. These letter addressed the FY24 Federal Budget Negotiations–DHS Appropriations, specifically H. R. 4367 funding for DHS, passed by the house on 9/28/23, that contains provisions in Title II, sections 211(a) and 212, that we unreservedly oppose (additional border wall construction.) We feel that it “threatens the very existence of our year-round and seasonally indigenous plants and animals—populations already seriously declining from an array of human impacts.” (See attached letters.) The letters were uploaded via the Representative’s website contact tab.

Reflection/Evaluation

We think that our member did an excellent job in drafting this letter, based on her knowledge of the issue and her fine writing skill. So far, we have received general responses back, although Congressman Gabe Vasquez’s office responded with somewhat more detail and focus on the border issues, including his recent efforts regarding legislation he has introduced.
