Short Description of Activity
Volunteers conducted both rec site and solitude monitoring in the Diamond Peak Wilderness and the Middle Santiam Wilderness. This are is covered by both the Willamette National Forest and the Deschutes National Forest. Some of the rec site monitoring required 3-5 day backpacking adventures; most of the solitude monitoring was conducted as a day hike. A few volunteers did a significant amount of the work.
Reflection/Evaluation
Fortunately there were mishaps or accidents. No one was lost or injured. Volunteers used the prescribed protocols and collected data that is important to the Forest Service. The objectives were met. Since this is a two-year grant, we will be engaging in the same activities next year.
