Reflection/Evaluation
We had a nice turn-out of fifteen Broads for this meeting. We heard reports and talked about the several advocacy issues on our agenda. However, we had the most spirited discussion of our newest advocacy initiative–protecting “legacy forests” in the state of Washington. Our Advocacy Chair, Genia Moncada, spent a lot of time reading from the state’s written documents defining “legacy forests” and indicating that these forests are intended to be logged on a regular basis, with the money from the logging sales going to support education in the state of Washington. We decided that we want to pursue this issue further, and we asked Genia and Janka to draft a written advocacy statement on “legacy forests” for us to consider at our next meeting. We were encouraged by how many Broads showed keen interest in the “legacy forest” issue at this meeting. Their interest was likely sparked by hearing the speaker on “Legacy Forests” from the Center for Responsible Forestry at our September meeting via Zoom and by our Broads’ participation in two hikes to different Legacy Forests, conducted jointly with the Center for Responsible Forestry.
