Activity Type: Advocacy (rallies, lobbying, meeting decision makers, letters/calls/emails)
Key Partners: members of the West Slope Outdoor Alliance
Short Description of Activity
Attended 2 meetings of the newly formed WSOA, which is part of the Regional Partnership Initiative funded by CPW to provide for “coalitions to join a statewide initiative working to ensure that Colorado’s land, water, and wildlife thrive while also providing for equitable and quality outdoor recreation experiences”. The WSOA covers Mesa, Delta and Montrose Counties. NSJBB is sharing the participation as the conservation organization representative with Sherry Schenk of the Grand Junction Broadband. WSOA is in the early stages of defining guiding principles. Sallie presented her idea to the group for their first quick-win project – to develop a Leave No Trace community campaign which would introduce the group and promote the need to protect wildlife during recreation.
Reflection/Evaluation
Group is starting up slowly. This is a great plan to share participation with another Broadband. This doubles the knowledge, divides the workload, and cuts down on transportation costs/time to attend meetings. Not sure which Activity Type applies to the Coalition work.
