Short Description of Activity
Review and monitoring of the 2024 CPW non-motorized grant application process. Earlier in the year, the Broadband + members of the loose Coalition met with CPW Trails Program and/or sent emails about how to improve the grant process to provide more protections for wildlife during trails construction/maintenance/use. In this 4 month time period NSJBB attended State Trails Committee meeting and provided comments, reviewed a majority of the 50 grant applications and provided group with spreadsheet synopsis of the projects, informed and encouraged participation in the process with CO Broadband Leaders and NSJBB members/Leadership team. Submitted comments on the grant applications to CPW, kept Coalition informed of the process.
Reflection/Evaluation
Feel good about how the Coalition, especially NSJBB, has had impact on how CPW restructured the grant process. We see more consideration/protections for wildlife and more scrutiny on the “we need more trails, at all costs” philosophy. I know that one other member of this loose Coalition submitted comments on the applications, but I am unaware of any other members who submitted, and I had no communication from other CO Broadbands about their participation in this process.
