Measurable Outcomes
Outcome 1: Wildlife monitored (5 Other)
Short Description of Activity
As part of our Broadband’s wildlife corridors emphasis within the sky island areas of southwestern NM, one of our steering committee members set up a wildlife camera this summer to capture images of fauna passing close to her home. She checks the camera frequently for wildlife activity and completes a report monthly. In addition, a wildlife image is sent monthly to Sky Island Alliance’s Fotofauna project, along with the monthly report. (They aggregate, compile and analyze the information.)
Reflection/Evaluation
It went well and this monitoring effort has become a highlight for our member. She finds it rewarding to view the animals showing up on the images and passing along the information. She just acquired an additional wildlife camera for her monitoring. Sky Island Alliance is attempting to bring their Fotofauna project efforts to the sky islands in New Mexico too, and we appreciate the fact that one of our key members stepped up to participate in this relevant monitoring. At our annual retreat this year, she summarized her participation in this project for attendees.
