Short Description of Activity

This group meets on an ad hoc basis to discuss issues in the Bridger-Teton NF and Caribou-Targhee NF. This is my first time meeting with them. Most of the time was spent updating everyone on the BTNF Management Plan update, which will begin this year. WHALES spend much less time in BTNF than CTNF so it’s less relevant to me. The Draft EIS for expansion of Grand Targhee ski area has been delayed – again – and the estimated release date is now sometime in May.

Reflection/Evaluation

We collaborate with WWA on solitude monitoring, so I got an update on that and will pass the info on to my hiking leaders. We did such a fine job last year that they’re giving us additional trails to monitor this year. I asked about commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the Wilderness Act in September. WWY asked us to take names (at our tabling events) of members of public interested in solitude monitoring – they do not need to be WHALES.
