Short Description of Activity
Artist talk and Block print demo with Kanani Miyamoto, Native Hawaiian, followed by a tour of the newly granted building for the Native Arts and Cultures foundation.
Reflection/Evaluation
Artist Kanani demonstrated her technique with large scale block printing and spoke on the themes of her work.
She spoke on much of her work counteracts the works of Paul Gauguin whose themes were misogynist and appropriating Tahiti culture, and on the colonization of Hawaiian natives for the sake of pineapple and sugar.
Following the talk and demo was the tour of the building, presently a work in progress, that will be a center to display Native Art, both locally and internationally, and hold events open to the public, both culturally and for private venues.
