Reflection/Evaluation
What a meeting. We have two commissioners that are so anti-wolf and one in particular who is an air-head and doesn’t know anything. There was a plea for funds for a rancher who said he had a cow who was killed by a wolf kill – there was no verification of this. He also wanted funding for livestock missing. The amount of dollars requested was out of line. We/I did not oppose funds for ranchers but there were obvious conflicts of interest. On top of this was a Commissioner who rambled on about wolves with no knowledge of wolf behavior let alone facts. At the end, 2 commissioner voted to approve the funds that are available via the state and the one commissioner in question abstained. Besides sending in my comments specifically about a conflict of interest and the commisioners having a more robust policy of how these funds are administered ( we should not be subsidizing ranchers who choose to graze on 100, 0000 acres of land…. but I also sent them a copy of the last Broadside which addressed wolves being reintroducted in Colorado. One of the Commissioners said that she was warning Colorado ranchers about the dangers of Oregon wolves being reintroduced to Colorado – oh, and voters in Colorado voted for this.
