Short Description of Activity
This was a Broadband meeting that was open to the public to have a guided tour of the Shavano Petroglyph site. Two trained docents, Russ and Alma, were there to lead two groups of participants ( because so many had reserved a spot) around the site and explain its ties to indigenous people over thousands of years of history. The Ute people were at this site within the last 500 years but other peoples had left their mark previously. The site is protected and can only be visited through approved and trained docents.NSJ Broads leadership team members,Christiane Frismuthe went with the first group while Judith Lopez went with the second around the site.
Reflection/Evaluation
The purpose was education and outreach to the community and to share respect for the indigenous community that lived here before us. The response from those that participated was very positive and appreciative. Many of the participants from the community asked to be put on the monthly mailing list about our activities.
