Short Description of Activity
The Aldo’s Broadband participated in Silver City’s annual Earth Day/Continental Divide Trail Days event. The theme this year was how to reduce plastic use. We held a free drawing for 2 baskets with Great Old Broads for Wilderness items as per the theme, including a stainless steel water bottle, a Broad’s reusable tote and bamboo utensil set, with a GOBW pamphlet, sticker and local Broadband pamphlet. Participants were asked to sign the list to be added to the listserv if they wanted to receive our local emails, with 43 new folks signing up. The drawing was made a half hour before the end of the event, with 2 lucky winners of a basket of goodies. Many people visited our table where we had information about what we do locally and nationally, as well as tips on how to reduce plastic. We talked to many folks about broads and our focus, and encouraged them to take a brochure (both local and national), newsletter, sticker and/or bookmark
Reflection/Evaluation
Our tabling at Earth Day was a success, and enjoyable. More folks stopped by compared with the past several years. We reached out and got two more members to help us at the table, and this helped out with outreach during the event plus made it more fun for us. We spent more time with presentation of our material on the table and for display of our broadband poster which likely helped draw folks in too. We also initiated “marketing” of our participation in this event by producing a news release about our free drawing featuring Great Old Broads for Wilderness items and a metal water bottle. This news release was picked up by our Silver City Daily Press newspaper and the online Grant County Beat, so was well worth the effort! This presumably brought more local visibility of our broadband and the Great Old Broads for Wilderness. We aim to continue this kind of marketing as the opportunity arises relative to our activities.
