Short Description of Activity
GYC staff explained the importance of migration to the longterm viability of ungulate herds in our region, and the barriers they face when crossing roads. Connectivity between herds is fragmented and needs to be enhanced for genetic diversity.
Reflection/Evaluation
Presenters focused on the Jackson WY area close to our valley, where wildlife vehicle collisions are all too common. An ongoing project to replace a major bridge on the Snake River in an area of frequent wildlife collisions has yielded the opportunity to install several new wildlife underpasses. We frequently cycle in this area and will have a look at the underpasses this summer, and I’ll explain the reasons behind them.
