Short Description of Activity
Salt River Project provided an in-depth lecture about their water policies and conservation, strategies for public lands stewardship throughout the state, and an in-person tour of the Central Arizona Project water delivery system and the Granite Reef dam. They also described how they clean the canal water (using specially-bred fish) and how the water distribution system works.
Reflection/Evaluation
This activity was very popular and effective. We had to turn away a few people who wanted to join the tour, because SRP capped the amount of attendees. People are very interested in how the water in our desert is being managed by the utility companies. Several people had pointed questions for the SRP staff. Prep, however was difficult. Staff at SRP often didn’t respond to my emails. The tour was put off for months. We finally received more attention when one of our Broadband members, a legislator who had contacts with SRP, intervened. Next time I work with a company like SRP, I’ll be more persistent and make calls.
