Key Issue: Wildlife Protection
Activity Type: Stewardship (monitoring, sampling, planting, etc.)
Key Partners: Sky Island Alliance
Measurable Outcomes
Outcome 1: Wildlife monitored (3 Other)
Short Description of Activity
As part of our Broadband’s wildlife corridors emphasis within the sky island areas of southwestern NM, one member continues to monitor 2 wildlife cameras to capture images of fauna passing close to her home near the Gila National Forest. She checks the cameras daily for wildlife activity and completes a report monthly. The monthly report includes a wildlife image of each recorded species and is sent to Sky Island Alliance’s Fotofauna project. (They aggregate, compile and analyze the information.)
Reflection/Evaluation
The wildlife monitoring continues to be a joy for our member. She has been able to record species she has seen tracks of, but never actually seen including a ringtail cat, racoon and bobcat. This past quarter images of coyotes appeared along with the resident foxes. Sky Island Alliance has brought their Fotofauna project to New Mexico to have a larger picture of the location and movement of species in SE Arizona and SW New Mexico. We appreciate the fact that one of our key members stepped up to participate in this relevant monitoring.
