Short Description of Activity
One of our steering committee members participated in a state (NM) Game and Fish public meeting, via Zoom to learn more about their current topics/ issues. A Mexican wolf research presentation was provided, regarding the wolf pup denning effort and current results regarding that. Genetic diversity of the wolf population was discussed. Then members of the public and others spoke, for instance regarding the release of wolf family units vs. denning of individual pups. Then elk management issues were discussed.
Reflection/Evaluation
It was interesting to note that while there were many ranchers in attendance, they were there mostly to speak on the elk issue, of which they held several different strong opinions. Our attendee gained more knowledge of several Mexican wolf issues in our area.
