Short Description of Activity
This was a trip to learn more about the Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde and their historic and current culture. These tribes, over 30, populated all of what is now western Oregon and our entire Broadband’s geographic area. We had a guided tour with a tribal member.
Reflection/Evaluation
The main exhibit at the museum focused on the tribes’ history of working in the timber industry in the early to mid 20th century, their only option permissible at that time for earning income. Our tour guide’s ancestors all worked as loggers. Our group felt a need to debrief our experience at the museum, what we learned and how it helped to inform our understanding of tribal culture. We did debrief at a meeting a few weeks later
